This painting was done in acrylics, which is more of an opaque medium. This let me bring out a lot of highlights in the rocks, since you can paint over layers without blending colors. I got some nice texture in the rocks by first applying modeling paste, laying the paint over that, and then scraping off some to show the underlying white.
